Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aerial Arts/Aerial Dance?

Aerial arts is the practice in which individuals perform tricks, dance and movement on a range of different apparatuses in the air. Aerials in the past decade has become increasingly popular as an alternative form of fitness, as well as a fun hobby where people can express their creativity and join a supportive community.

At Aerial Magic we specialise in teaching aerial hoop (lyra) and aerial dance hammock.

Do I need to be physically fit or need previous experience to join a class?

You do not need any aerial experience to join a class at Aerial Magic. Our classes are open to people of all fitness levels! If you would like some help deciding which class would suit you/or your child best, please message us and we can give you some pointers.

For complete beginners, it is recommended to consider the aerial hammock class as it is a great apparatus to build your aerial foundations. If you would like to enhance your aerial skills faster we recommend pairing a 1-hour aerial class with the 45-minute aerial strength and stretch class (this is for 15yrs+ only).

What should I wear to class?

We recommend fitted comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Full length tights and a fitted top is best to cover areas such as your knees and back to avoid fabric burns/scratches from the apparatus. For boys/men sweatpants are a good option or leggings with shorts over the top.

Please do not wear clothing with zippers or jewellery as it could potentially damage equipment.

Can I stay and watch my child’s class?

For your child’s first-ever class we would love for you to watch! After that, it is preferred that parents wait until our watching week in the last week of the school term to see what their child has been working towards. This allows our students to have fun and focus on what they are learning in class. It is also rewarding for the students to showcase what they have learned to their parents/guardians at the end of the term.

We also understand that joining a new class can be a big deal and a driver of anxiety for some students so please contact us and we can discuss options/strategies that will suit your child best.

How big are the classes?

Class sizes are limited to six people. The benefit of a smaller class is that each student will recieve more individual attention.

How much does it cost?

A 1-hour aerial class is $27 if you book casually. The 45-minute aerial strength and stretch class is $20.

For children's classes, a term (typically 10 weeks) costs $250.
